Reducing Comment Spam

I think it was time to speak on reducing comment spam for the simple fact that you boys have hit my pretty little blog up with a lot of crap and I never ate spam and never will. Now I am really a sweet person that will give you my last dollar if you needed it but there are things that really makes me put a frown on. As you can tell my blog is very new but as soon as I begin to create my own content related to the relevance of my site, here’s comes the can of that uncooked meat that I hate.

I never even thought about reducing comment spam so quickly because as every new blogger does, you only want to focus on adding your content so everyone can share and enjoy but oh no, I find myself deleting this dog-on spam than posting on my blog. Come on now stop doing me this way! You know this is wrong. Everyone hates this. I know we all want good back links and so on but I don’t even have a nice page rank yet. I feel I don’t have enough content and I find myself digging in my desk, pulling out my spam reducer already.

Reducing Comment Spam is very easy due to many blog tools and plugins online. If you haven’t notice, I am using wordpress for my blog and there is a plugin called akismet. I am sure you have already heard of it as it is very popular and of course useful to bloggers who needed it very badly like me. I mean I really needed something fast.

Just look at the real screen captures of the spammers. Boy look at them go!

Now this is bad.

As you can see the one posted at 6 am is an insurance company but their links are related to slot games?

There were more but those were the good examples. I am also getting even more spam as I make this post and that’s just terrible isn’t it?

Now I didn’t want to tattle tell or put them on blast by showing the world their websites so of course I covered it up. I also didn’t want to be mean but when I found that I had to delete so much spam comments instead of good useful created comments, I was truly hot and bothered. I hope I don’t be seen as spam to anyone’s eyes because I will state how I feel on blog topics as well but of course I know to never spam someone’s blog this way. It is bad when they do it more than 4 times in a row to make sure they get through. Why do they do this? Someone tell me? How is this a benefit for someone’s website? I mean nowadays you must be careful even to accept a comment on your blog because the entire website that does the spamming may be considered harmful to your website in Google’s eyes. You don’t want to deal with them in anyway. You must be careful whom you link to period.

Reducing Comment Spam using plugins like Karma and Akismet is very useful. I hear that some bloggers use a combination of 2 or 3 to really make sure they defeat spam. You can also close your comments on older posts if you feel your blog is getting popular and have you ever heard of blocking their Ip addresses? That works really well but you will find yourself blocking all of thier ip addresses or you could be blocking a list of Ip ranges on visitors that don’t deserve it. There’s also a method of using recaptcha wordpress plugin but sometimes even I don’t like the fact that I am not a spammer and when I want to comment, I have to input this in as well. Sometimes I find myself leaving the blog and not bother leaving my comment due to this.

When reducing comment spam, I would really suggest reading a little bit more on using these plugins if you are having trouble getting bombarded with a lot of spam. I use Akismet for myself because it is great on blocking my spam. I have the option of choosing which comments I really want to add on my blog as well.

Another tip, never let spam get your down, add your method to defeat this and simply move on and just keep on blogging.
